winter lips

hola chicas,
so you might have noticed by now that I'm quite partial to slathering my lips in some shade of lipstick and that especially doesn't change in winter! although the cold makes any girls lips sore and chapped at this time of year, it doesn't mean your lipstick has to go into hibernation in favour of the lipsil. so I thought I'd show you my winter lip care/lipstick routine to help you combat flaky lips syndrome.

 my products include:
MAC lipstick in Russian Red
MAC 318 retractable lip brush
Rimmel Exaggerate lipliner
Lipcoate

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

step 1 - exfoliate your lips! this step is especially crucial in winter and when wearing dark lipsticks as it removes any flaky, dry skin that is highlighted even more with dark lipsticks. you don't need to splash out on lip exfoliants either - you can make your own. there's a page HERE with a number of methods

step 2 - its also important to keep your lips moisturised so apply lip balm whenever you can throughout the day. before applying your lipstick moisturise your lips whilst doing the rest of your make-up to allow it to soak in

step 3 - line your lips with a lipliner in a colour closest to your lipstick. this step will exaggerate your lips and stop the colour from bleeding. you can line the whole of lips or you can fill them in. I tend to fill all my lips in with a lipliner as it then holds my lipstick better; I then just line the edges throughout the day as they start to fade to make them look bold again

step 4 - you can then finally apply your lipstick! you can apply it straight from the tube or with a lip brush - its entirely up to you. I personally apply some straight onto my lips and then make it neater with my lipbrush

step 5 - simply using a tissue blot the colour from your lips to get rid of any excess and use a lipstain to hold the colour. I use Lipcoate; which is actually a clear liquid but I've stained it pink, oops ;)

et volia!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

extra tips:
  • to prevent lipstick getting on your teeth take your index finger put it in your mouth and then pull it out again. the excess lipstick will then come off on your finger and not rub off on your teeth
  • to prevent lipstick from rubbing off onto your glass just lick your lips before taking a sip
  • to fix a broken lipstick - take the broken part and wave a lit match/lighter underneath it until it starts to melt. then place it back on the base and leave it in the fridge, uncovered, for 30 minutes
  • if you've nearly run out of lipstick use a lipbrush to scrape it out or make a lipgloss out of it by mixing the remaining lipstick with some vaseline
